Article describing UWI HARP

UWI HARP (The University of the West Indies HIV/AIDS Response Programmed) is an accelerated institutional response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic across the entire University - on the campuses in Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago as well as in the extramural centres scattered throughout the English-speaking Caribbean. UWI HARP is a multidisciplinary group dedicated to using the expertise of the University to work with other committed partners in combating HIV/AIDS and mitigating its impact.

Established in August of 2001, UWI HARP has multi-disciplinary task forces on each of the UWI’s three campuses, and membership that includes staff and students from across the region. These include non-campus territories, as well as invited members from government and non-governmental organisations. UWI HARP’s agenda is both internal and external, encompassing workplace policies and campus driven activities, as well as curriculum reform to strengthen the knowledge and human resource base available to the Region. Particular areas of focus, with the support of the SIRHASC project, have included Health Economics, Communication, Behavioural Sciences, Medicine, Nursing and Public Health.
